Historical Bar and Restaurant. The bar is separate from the restaurant and has a bunch of memorabilia from over the years. Wooden floors and ceilings and a Cool vibe. Delicious Snapper that tasted like they just caught it and brought it into cook. Fresh salad and scrumptious rolls with butter. Great views of Intracoastal and Marina.

Finally had a chance to check out this local landmark in Lighthouse Point. Caps place has been around since the 1920’s and I can see why. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, there are only about 12 tables. To get to the restaurant you have to take a water taxi, It’s about a 3 minute smooth ride. If it is a rainy day, I do not recommend but they do have umbrellas if needed. The place does look like a hole in the wall but we all know the best food comes from places like this. We arrived early so we could spend some time at the bar. No fancy cocktails, this is a real old school bar. When our reservation was ready we headed to the hostess stand in the other building. Our server brought some delicious warm bread and explained the specials along with other items not listed on the menu. Note, the menu specifically says “Good food takes time, all food is prepared to order”. We started with the blackened Mahi bites. So fresh, tasted like it was caught that morning. I also got a house salad, the creamy garlic dressing is to die for. For entrees we both got the crab cakes. They were full of lump crab meat with a touch of dill flavor. They included a side of green beans that were definitely canned but they seasoned well & horseradish mashed potatoes that I really enjoyed. For dessert we saved room for the Lime Pie. It was very tart but the sweet graham cracker crust balanced it out. Overall we had a great experience.

Cap's Place is a nice nostalgic restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. It's a quick boat ride from the marina in Lighthouse point. The food is good. Our party had the fish dip appetizer, snapper with smashed sweet potato and mixed vegetables, dolphin dinner with the same sides and the crab cakes with smashed potatoe and horseradish. The crab cakes are room temperature, not hot. The waiter tells you this when ordering. Atmosphere is really nice and the scenery is amazing, especially when the sun is setting.

Short (less than 5 mins) relaxing ferry ride to the restaurant. The ferry man was pretty nice as well. Food was delicious. Ordered the crab cakes, hearts of palm salad and seafood sampler-blackened mahi mahi/shrimp/scallops with mashed sweet potatoes. It was all delicious. And our waiter was extremely helpful in selecting our dishes. Will be returning.

For 20, maybe 30 years I've heard and read about this place. Finally I got my friend to actually drive me to it. It's authentic. I loved the atmosphere, it smells of old wood, not unpleasant, decorated with funky old Florida primitive paintings, nautical bric-a-brac and ancient framed newspaper and magazine clippings. The menu is pleasingly short, not overburdened with choices. Our party of three ate very well with high-quality ingredients. The seafood platter had some of the sweetest-tasting scallops I've eaten and some nicely sized shrimp. The crab cakes were outstanding, big pieces of crabmeat nestled in a delicious breading. The swamp cabbage (heart of palm) salad was terrific, served with a seasoned mayonnaise. Our outstanding waiter came by showing us the actually heart of the palm tree from which our salads were made. The key lime pie was on point, not too sweet with a lovely tangy tartness on a slightly crisp crust. The bar was closed but they did pour me a scotch to begin, and kept the Heinekens coming during my meal. An altogether a memorable meal, including a free boat ride!

Server was terrific! Full of fun stories and historical moments from the Caps Place background. Very knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and attentive.

Food had its memorable, delicious and shining moments like the Crab cakes and the Yellowtail Snapper (ask for lemon and their spicy/creamy dipping sauce to accompany it- game changer). The smashed sweet potato side and their homemade baked rolls are big warm hug and kiss from a great grandma... "Crazy good" as our server slept saying.

Unfortunately, the fried Calamari was not a hit , way undercooked and the mashed potatoes had no flavor. We also did not enjoy the Key lime pie. Atmosphere indoors was full of history but not visually pleasing at all especially to be at this price point.

However, the moonlit boat ride and short stroll to and from restaurant was romantic and unique. Overall we enjoyed ourselves.
